The roads in the downtown of the City of Flames are wide so that ashes can easily be swept off the street by city sweepers without slowing down any traffic. The streets are lined with very beautiful lamps made of wrought iron, sculpted into very beautiful and diverse designs. The lamps themselves shed an amber-red light matching the color of the lava from the volcano. |

Kieran dragged Adrian into the streets with Alice in tow. He half-shoved, half-threw Adrian out in front of him, still holding onto his collar. "What the FUCK is wrong with you?" he snarled.

Adrian couldn't stop the flow the words coming out of his mouth....well he could, he just didn't want too. "Yes, it would be better if you did, and it would make me very happy. I wouldn't notice the difference between you being dead or you being locked up in your room. Why do you lock yourself in there? Are you plotting? So what was it? First mother, then father, and what? Me after them?" He didn't stop talking even when he was grabbed by the collar. He glanced up at Kieran still wearing the sunglasses. "Or is that what you were doing today with her? Plotting to kill father and me?"

Alice was silent and facing away from them. She was beginning to silently cry, not wanting anybody to hear her. Was this her fault that this happened? It sure felt like it, if only she didn't raise her voice at Adrian.

Kieran let go of Adrian, utter shock stamped on his face. His eyes grew rather distant, and his face paled slightly too. "How could you say that?" he asked, his voice barely keeping the pain out of it. "H-how could you possibly say anything like that? Do you have any idea what... what you're saying?" Of course he did, but Kieran hadn't the heart to ask why.

Adrian fixed his collar, looking from one sibling to the other. "How can I not say that? Am I really the only one that goes wandering off late at night into the early morning? I hear a lot of things. Rumors and such. Some say that's why father stays away from us, others say I should follow father's example." He stuffed his hands into his pockets, his posture casual. 'I don't want to get stabbed in the back while I'm sleeping," he replied, his tone cold. "I'm not a coward like father. If someone's plotting to kill me, I'm going to kill them first."

Trying to be invisible just like Adrian said she was, Alice began to wander away back towards the ridge. Making every step silent. Why would she plot to kill anyone? She simply can't. Alice just kept moving towards the ridge. Yeah... It wouldn't make a difference... Yeah... He's right... It wouldn't make a difference.

"Alice!" Kieran called after her. He looked back at Adrian, pure rage and betrayal replacing the shock and sorrow he had felt moments before. "You're one to talk," he growled. "Always blaming others for everything. Always looking to me for answers one moment then shoving me away. You say you care about me but only when it suits you. Alice didn't deal with mother's death perfectly, but no one could. Sure, it was my fucking fault. But you know what? I got over it! I moved on! It eats away at me every single day. And every moment the king looks at me I can feel the hatred in his eyes. But I keep on living with that because I have no other choice. I don't want to be the King. I want you to be the King. That's why i'm the one who fucks up and is hated and makes all the mistakes. So that you won't have to. But you throw it away in reckless tantrums like these. I've done nothing but sacrifice myself in looking out for you, and this is how you repay me? By accusing me of wanting to murder you?"

I didn't ask you to do anything for me, and I don't want you to do anything for me ever again. I can't trust anyone, including you." He pointed at Kieran, shaking with anger. "It's been years. Years since I found out I had a twin brother. Years since I waited for someone to tell me what happened to him, and do you think I ever got my answer? Maybe that's what should have happened to me instead of him, huh? Maybe you would have gotten along better with him instead of me."

Alice had completely blanked out the conversation now. She didn't even hear when Kieran called for her or any of Adrian's yelling. She just continued on her way towards the ridge, now breaking into a run. Adrian's words continued echoing in her head. She eventually began to start saying them as if she were hypnotized.

Kieran grabbed Adrian by the shoulder, drew back his other hand,a dn slapped him across the face. "Don't you ever say anything like that again!" he snapped. He was on the verge of screaming at him. "I lost one baby brother, don't make me lose another." He shook Adrian roughly. "Fuck you! For everything! Of course you're a wreck. But so am I. So is Alice. So is that chef you so stupidly manhandled. Everyone on this planet is a fucking wreck, Adrian! But what determines the strong wrecks from the weak wrecks are how we handle them. If you turn to tantrums and drugs and shit, then you deserve every bad thing coming to you. But if you decide to suck it up and move on, then you will rise above it. And screw everything else."

Adrian jumped when his brother's hand made contact with his face. He flinched at Kieran's words. He rubbed his face with one hand, and used the other to pull his brother's hand off his shoulder. Once he was free, he turned away from his older brother, still rubbing his face. He hadn't processed anything Kieran had snapped at him. Kieran hit him.

He blinked, eyes finally narrowing to slits. "Are you even listening to me?" he snapped, though his words were obviously falling on deaf ears. What the hell? "Adrian..?" he asked, his voice a little lower and less angry, more concerned.

"Don't you have anything fucking better to do right now?" Adrian snapped back, cursing under his breath when his voice cracked. He didn't turn around to speak to Kieran. "Like going after Alice? She needs your help more than I ever will so what are you waiting for?" He stopped rubbing his face, but he still felt the sting. He didn't think that was going to go away for some time.

Kieran caught the wariness in his brother's eyes, and he knew why. He knew, but he said nothing about it. What could be said? He was sorry? Adrian did not seem inclined to believe him. "Let's just go home, Adrian," he said, his voice hollow. He turned towards the ridge to fetch their sister back.
