He nodded to her and started walking down the ridge path, kicking up gravel here and there. At least the sirens had stopped. Guess the threat is over... whatever it was. He looked back at Alice. "What are you in the mood for?"

"Hmm, adventurous much?" he asked. His face didn't give away that he was teasing, but the tone sure did. He looked over at the town for a moment. "Well, there's a curry place that opened up downtown. Let's go to that one."

"It won't make a difference..." Alice echoed, a slight sad laugh escaped her lips as she dragged herself to the Ridge once again. She stopped and looked out into the distance. "It won't make a difference..." She echoed once again, staring off into the distance. "It's like I never existed..." The silence was her only solace now. She sat down after a bit and pulled her legs into her chest, whimpering and hiding her face. "I'm pathetic... why do I even exist...?"

Kieran climbed back up the rudge, keeping an eye out for his wandering sister. He eventually saw her small form huddled up in an attempt to comfort herself. With a soft sigh, he walked up to her and laid a hand on her shoulder. "Let's go home, Alice."

She wanted to protest about going back there and facing Adrian, but she had no energy to argue with Kieran now. She truly wanted to go home and forget this ever happened. "... Ok..." Alice whimpered and stood up. "... Kieran...?" She croaked after a moment. "... Do you think it wouldn't make a difference if I died?"

His eyes widened a little, the usual navy depths shimmering a violet-blue in the orange light of the volcano. "Of course it would make a difference," he said. "Don't listen to Adrian when he's high. He can't even tell up from down in that state."

"No, it isn't," he said, trying to be reassuring, but his heart was heavy with what passed between him and his brother, that his words felt a little more hollow than he meant for them to be. "Come on back home. He'll eventually get off the high and he'll apologize. You'll see." He sounded sure of himself, but he really wasn't.
