A massive gorge that marks part of their Eastern border.

The guard was exhausted. He was barely making it over the tops of the trees as he carried himself and Kieran through the air. The midnight violet dragon felt a fresh surge of energy at the sight of the edges. Soon as they crossed those, they would be safe. He looked back to check on Adrian. No point having to carry both of them in dragon form if he didn't have to. That kid insisted on flying, then he better make it, he thought.

Adrian flew at some distance behind the guard. He was slowly down, but he wasn't ready to fall out of the sky and give up just yet. He flapped his wings harder when he saw the edge, and pushed himself to fly faster. He knew it didn't look like he cared that the guard had saved Kieran and was the one flying with him, but he'd rather have his brother be across the border and not in danger of more guards being sent.

The guard turned back to face their destination. Almost there! he growled over the rush of the wind. He knew Adrian was already trying his hardest. They both were. He flew up and over the edges and over the Wyldelei forest. Finally. He brought his wings back and began a careful yet quick descent, finding a clearing large enough to drop Kieran in without impaling him on trees. He set him down and slumped down on the ground to lie on his side. His whole body ached and he was exhausted.

Adrian flew after the larger dragon. He dived down after the guard, though his landing wasn't as controlled as the other dragon's. He lay slumped on his stomach for some time before he finally got up and went over to Kieran. Sniffing the red dragon, he listened for a heartbeat before he stumbled off. Heading over to a large oak, he opened his jaws and sent out an ice beam. Creating a large patch of ice under the tree, he curled up on it. He hoped he wouldn't bump into the Werehorse that looked after him in the dungeons here. The man would surely give him a stern talking to for pushing himself this hard and causing further injury to himself and his wounds. It wasn't as though he had much of an option though. He wouldn't have been able to get this far if he hadn't. Had it all been worth it? Had fighting and pushing himself on been worth it instead of giving up? It all must have had a purpose earlier but he couldn't remember what that was now.

The guard rolled over onto his back, changing forms to human again. He was breathing heavy and everything was getting fuzzy. His eyes fluttered shut, and his body sort of slumped. He appeared to be sleeping.

Adrian opened an eye and looked over at the guard. He heard how heavily he was breathing, and saw him change back into human form. He should help him, shouldn't he? After all, if it wasn't for the other weredragon's help he wouldn't have managed to make it here with Kieran. Getting up to his feet slowly, he made his way over to the guard, changing back into human form a few feet away and fell to the ground next to the man. "Hey," he shook the guard's shoulder slightly. "Are you okay?" He knew it was a stupid question to ask. None of them were okay. He didn't know what else to ask or say at this point. He didn't think there was anything he could do to repay the man for flying his brother across the border for him.

The guard made no reply or any sign he had heard. In fact, he was growing steadily cold, and he was rather limp too. It was rather accurate to assume he was dead.

Adrian continued to shake the guard, his attempts becoming more desperate. "Hey! Come on....wake up! We made it. You're here, and you're free." He frowned, his brow furrowed when the man still didn't move or speak. He reached out to feel the guard's neck for a pulse, but he jerked his hand away when he felt how cold the other weredragon was. Oh no. Not again. Not another one. He wrapped his arms around his leg and begun to rock himself slowly, his breathing ragged. Hadn't there been enough death for one day? The guards that had chased after them. Lorcan. Now the only guard that had been decent to them and offered to help them was gone too. And now he was alone with Kieran.

Kieran stirred slightly but not enough to wake. Even in the depths of his unconscious mind, he could sense something was wrong. He was not sure what, but it was something and it had to do with Adrian.

Adrian glanced behind him, growing tense when he saw Kieran move slightly, even though it didn't look like he was ready to wake up just yet. He stared down at the guard for a few moments before he dug his fingers into the earth beside him and begun to dig. He hadn't had the time to bury Lorcan. This was the least he could do for the guard. The incisions on his hands begun to sting as the dirt got them. He clenched his jaw and continued on, his chin quivering and his eyes becoming watery. He didn't even know the guard's name.

The air was suddenly full of a loud roar. Two shapes circled in the sky, dark with distance but oddly birdlike in shape. Only some mythical creature could have made that roar, and judging by the inhabitants of the territory, it was probably dragons.

Adrian flinched and covered his head with his arms when he heard the roar. Had more guards followed after them? Where they going to be dragged back to the dungeons. He didn't dare look up, and shut his eyes tightly instead. Was this ever going to be over?

One of the black shapes swooped down from the sky, braking right before it landed on the ground. It was a dragon. It was a massive, white and gold beast with gleaming, icy blue eyes. The dragon leaned in close to the dead body, then looked over at the dragon and the boy. The dragon shifted down into a young man, probably eighteen years old, black hair, dark eyes. He turned to Adrian. "Are you alright there?" he asked.

Adrian jumped when he felt something huge land not too far away from him. He crawled around the hole he had begun to dig and went over to the guard. Sitting down beside him, he clutched onto the dead man's shirt tightly. He glanced in the stranger's direction, only seeing the older were's shoes before he looked away. Staring down at the guard again, he nodded. It clearly was a lie. He looked like he had been through a war zone, but he wasn't about to accept anymore help. Especially not from someone he didn't know. As far as he was concerned there wasn't anyone left that he could trust.
