Fino just nodded. "If you want to learn, let me know," Fino said, regarding the music room with a quick glance. He pushed off the doorframe and entered the room, brushing past Deniz to the piano. There was a fine layer of dust on the well-worn, ivory keys. He pushed one down, and a mellow note rang out somberly. Hmm, haven't played in a while." He lifted his finger and brushed it against the others, relieving it of the dust it had picked up. "A long while..." he said aloud. He stopped and glanced back at Deniz, then he left the piano and headed back out the door. "Come along then. Food is ready." He headed down the stairs and swept into the dining room, plopping himself down into the seat at the head of the table.

“I will, master.” Deniz doubted that he would be asking Fino for music lessons any time soon. Embarrassing himself in front of his master was not something he’d willingly want to do. He watched the werehawk quietly, wondering why he would have these instruments around if he didn’t plan on playing them. He followed Fino out, and down into the dining room. The Satellite bit the inside of his cheek, momentarily debating where he was supposed to sit down until he settled on a chair off to Fino’s right, leaving a spot in between them. Was it too much to leave the space between them? Would his master get mad he wasn’t sitting next to him? Deniz didn’t mean anything by it, but he had Fino’s other Satellite in mind and he was worried he’d up sitting where his master’s former Satellite had sat. “Thank you for cooking, master.” He should have been the one cooking for Fino, not the other way around. “Would you like me to start cooking for you?” Cooking was actually something he was fairly good at, but he doubted Fino would allow him to do so. Did his master think he was going to sabotage the food in some way?

“Sure,” Fino said, serving his plate up with food. “Have a seat, Deniz. None of the chairs are going to bite you.” He pointed at the dishes. “That’s pork sausage with a savory rub. We have mixed vegetables there and baked potatoes there. Help yourself to any of the fixings.” It was a rather pretty spread. The sausage was still a little on the rarer side and stewing in its juices. There were corn, peas, and carrots all in the mixed vegetables pot. The potatoes had been baked, the white potato removed and mixed with egg white, and non-sweet cream before it was spooned back into the potato skin shells, all that done to make the potato more fluffy and soft. He took two of those, a lot of vegetables, and several links of sausage. He was thinking about the music room again. He could still hear the music he and his Satellite would play. But like a tape on rewind, he played it all the way back to when he first saw his Satellite play. ”Why are your fingers bleeding?” He sighed heavily and stabbed his potato.

Deniz mouth watered even more when he saw the food spread out in front of him. He was still eyeing it all when Fino stabbed his food. He helped himself to a bit of everything, glancing at his master a few times before he decided it would be best to keep his eyes down on his plate instead. Fino could have been thinking about anything regarding his Satellite, but he believed it had been a mistake for him to enter the music room. If he had thought asking to be taught to play any of the instruments would have helped his master he would have pushed through the embarrassment to have done so. At this point he wasn’t sure there was anything he could do to make any of this easier besides doing what he was told and staying out of Fino’s way for the rest of the time. He ate slowly, his stomach flip-flopping, torn between it’s demand to be fed and the tension that wanted to reject what was being forced down.

Fino noticed the odd way Deniz was quietly eating. He chewed a bite of potato slowly and swallowed. "What's on your mind, Deniz?" he asked, taking a sip of water after and shooting him a serious glance. "And don't be vague or try to weasel out of it. Only way for me to help you to help me is if you get your thoughts out in the open." He pushed his vegetables into a pile with his fork as he waited for an answer.

Deniz opened his mouth after Fino’s first question, though he closed it after his master’s added instructions. He put his fork down slowly, and held his hands tightly under the table. He bit the inside of his cheek, trying to get his thoughts in order first. “I want to help you, master…but I don’t know if I can help you with this. I don’t think you were ready to go back to North Town. I can’t replace the one you were bound to before me.” His tone lacked emotion, even though he was scared to force the words out. He grew tense, preparing himself to be struck.

Fino had been chasing a pea around his plate with his fork, but dropped it with a loud clatter when Deniz finished. He set his elbows on the table and ran both hands through his hair. He sighed loudly and folded his hands together, resting his chin on them. "How very perceptive of you, Deniz," he said lowly. He was gritting his teeth. He would have loved to beat the ever loving shit out of Deniz, but he knew that was the wrong thing to do. The worst thing to do. None of it was Deniz' fault, and he was right about everything. Fino had not been ready to go back... "I never should have gone back to North Town," he said, his voice strained, "but I had no choice. Things are happening and it will only get worse from here on out. I have to have you, understand?" He started again before Deniz could answer: "And no, I will never get over it. I would never have been ready to go to North Town. I will never get over what happened to the first one, but it was nothing I could have prepared for or something I could easily get over." He held his hand up to Deniz, the one with the gash. "It's still there, under this one. I can feel his bond still tearing at me, like a ghost made of scrabbling claws. This doesn't mean you and I are not bonded, or that you and I are utter failures in this. So yah, for a while it will be hell, for you and me. But just bear with it and we'll see it through eventually." He picked up his fork with that same hand and poked at the sausage on his plate.

Deniz jumped when the fork fell loudly. He stared down at his plate, determined not to look up and see the blow come. It never came, but he still didn’t look up. He reluctantly glanced up when he saw the hand being held out for him, but he was quick to look away again. He wasn’t sure if he could continue on with this or not, but it’s not like he had much of a choice. “I understand, master,” he replied after a few moments of silence, though he wasn’t entirely sure he did understand. What things were happening and would get worse? That didn’t make sense. Staring down at his plate still, he found he had no desire to continue eating. “May I be excused to my room, master? Unless you want me to clean up?” He couldn’t pass up the chance to actually do something useful. If he went up to his room now he’d only be left with his thoughts a lot sooner.

He sighed, wondering wether he should dismiss him or not. On the one hand, he wanted to keep an eye on Deniz. "Oh god I've been such an idiot," he grumbled under his breath. "Yes, you may go," he said to Deniz. "Your leftovers will be in the fridge if you want them later." He stabbed his potato and took a bite.

“Thank you, master,” Deniz stood up and bowed slightly, “Good night.” Turning away he headed upstairs. Going into his room, he closed the door behind him slowly. Standing next to the door he glanced at the bed and to the desk. Had he done something wrong? Should he have lied? No, lying would have meant disobeying his master and that wasn’t what he wanted. Sighing, he walked towards the bed and lay down on the floor, folding his arms over his chest and stared up at the ceiling. Should he have stayed downstairs even though he didn’t want to? It was irresponsible to leave Fino alone downstairs, wasn’t it? Should I go downstairs and apologize? The Satellite frowned, filled with questions and no answers. If anyone thought it was simple to be a Satellite, he’d like to change places with them. The other Satellites would have been able to handle this situation a lot better than him. They wouldn’t be reading into everything like he was. The werehawk would have been better off with a much more confident Satellite. Deniz rolled over onto his stomach. The thought of running away and not stopping tempted him. Not having a master, being able to do what he wanted…but he couldn’t do that Fino.

Fino felt like shit for what he had said. It was obvious his words bothered his Satellite, probably in more ways than he knew. It was hard to remember how people’s emotions worked. He had lived so long alone that he was rather rusty at his people skills. He finished his meal in silence now, contemplating his own words, thinking on all the events of the past day or two that had led them to this point. I knew the first day would be hard, he told himself. I knew I would start thinking of him. Fino stood up and started clearing the table, setting the leftovers into Tupperware before shoving that in the fridge. Then he washed the dishes, trying to think and take his mind off things at the same time, which led to a back and forth conundrum that gave him a headache. When he finally emptied the drains, he was rather mentally exhausted. I should go to bed early tonight. But he did not think he could actually sleep. So he headed upstairs and found himself standing in front of the piano again. Deciding enough as enough, he let out a soft sigh and sat down at the piano. He had not played in five years. Five years… he could hardly believe that. But still, he set his fingers to the keys and started to play.

Questions had still been swirling around his head, but Deniz eventually nodded off. His head jerked up and his eyes were wide open at the strange sound that filled the house. Blinking, he pushed himself up into a sitting position, relaxing slightly when he realized it was the piano being played. Knowing what the sound was eased his racing heart a little, but the music itself made him uncomfortable. Moving towards the window, he opened it and stuck his head outside. He breathed in deeply, closing his eyes and listening to the sounds of the waves. He was climbing out of the window and scaling down the building before the idea had fully formed in his head. Now wasn’t this irresponsible? Shouldn’t he have at least gone to let Fino know that he was leaving the house? Frowning, he rubbed his eyes and stumbled off down the beach. The werehawk would be fine. He’d hear if anyone else ventured near the house. He hadn’t seen the branch until he had tripped over it, and fell to the ground heavily. He kicked the branch away, annoyed that he was brought down by such a thing. When was the last time he had slept? He clearly was tired if he couldn’t watch where he was walking, and he was overtired for being in denial that he was tired in the first place. He didn’t have the energy to get himself back up again, even when he felt his body begin to shift. His skin blackened and whitened, and became that sleek skin of the orca. His limbs shortened, hands and feet becoming paws. His face pushed put into a muzzle as his tail bone elongated and. He snorted dejectedly, not trying to stop the change and he remained where he had fallen even after he was done. He stared out at the ocean, aware that swimming probably would have helped his dorsal fin get better instead of flopping to the side.

It had not been Fino’s attention to wake the Satellite up, nor was he aware that he had been sleeping and then awoke and left. Not because he was playing so loud or was inattentive, Deniz was just quiet like that. And if Fino had been able to guess his Satellite’s thoughts, he would have stopped altogether and sought him out to tell him how none of that ‘running away’ business was a good idea and that Deniz was not a failure, etcetera, etcetera. But instead, he was rather ignorant of what went on in that poor boy’s head, and found himself trapped inside his own unwillingly. Fino played only a part of the song, not willing to go through an entire half hour of music. His notes became stronger and fingers more confident as he played. But he was not altogether there. He was back in Finaeiro with his first Satellite, watching as he played the violin till his fingers bled, and the blood ran down the instrument, staining the wood. And then there was fire and madness and those same hands were pulling him through and out of it all to somewhere safe. And both times, Fino had asked him: ”Why are your fingers bleeding? Fino finished the song about halfway through, and he abandoned the music room and its instruments, heading for his own room. He stopped in the hall, looking to where he thought Deniz was still at. This won’t be easy he thought to himself, but I’ll make an effort. For Deniz’ sake. Then he did go to his bedroom, unlock the door, and fall into his own bed before drifting off to sleep.

Deniz could tell that the time was passing by and still he lay where he had fallen. He started to grow restless and uncomfortable though. Glancing down at himself, he saw he was drying out. Getting up to his paws, he shuffled over to the water and collapsed once he was close enough to it. With the waves crashing in and out he got to stay on land and keep himself wet at the same time. The Satellite fell asleep again. He managed to remain asleep for several hours this time, woken up by a wave that crashed over him and begun to drag him out into the ocean. He scrambled back onto land, pausing before he decided it was time he returned back to his master’s house. His pace was slow, and he dragged his heavy tail behind him, making a clear trail behind him. He whined when he reached the front door, and slumped down against it. Resting his head on his paws, he saw red and purple hues on the horizon, and he fell asleep again watching the sun begin to rise.

Fino woke up relatively early. He sun was starting to rise when he opened his eyes, golden light filtering in through the window panes. He stretched like a cat and rolled out of bed, stumbling for the bathroom where he took his clothes off and climbed into the bath. He let the water run hot and fill the tub. With a sigh, he settled down in the water, leaning his head against the back of the tub. He soaked there for a good half hour before he decided it was time to get started. He climbed out and drained the tub, put on some fresh clothes, and headed into the hall. He stopped by Deniz' bedroom door and knocked. The door swung in, and he saw that the room was empty. "Deniz?" he went to the bathroom, but it was empty too. So he headed downstairs, going through all the rooms. No Deniz. He finally opened the front door, and the door bumped into Deniz' nose. One eyebrow raised and he picked Deniz up, carried him into the living room, and set him on the couch. He then went to the kitchen and started making breakfast.
