The Satellite was in such a deep slumber that he remained sleeping through the door hitting his nose and his master carrying him into the house and onto the couch. Being that Deniz was still in his cross form, it was clear that he was still exhausted. He probably hadn’t slept for more than two hours at once since he had left North Town. There were obvious signs that he was dreaming. His paws twitched, his ears flattened and even his tail lifted up into the air and fell back down onto the couch. Whether or not these dreams were good ones or nightmares couldn’t be told for certain since he didn’t make any noises. At the smell of breakfast cooking his nose twitched. His head lifted up off of the couch as he started sniffing the air. He was blinking his eyes sleepily when he left off the couch. With a whine that sounded more like a complaint, he got up and stumbled out of the living, using his nose to lead him to the kitchen since he was still half a sleep. By the time he had reached the kitchen he had shifted into wolf form, and he had woken up enough to know that he was hungry and there was food being cooked.

Fino paused and glanced over his shoulder to see the somber looking wolf standing behind him. He made a sort of half smile and turned back to the stove. "Just in time," he said. He grabbed a plate from the counter and used the spatula to scrape hashbrowns, eggs, and bacon onto it. He looked back at the wolf for a moment, figuring he was too hungry to change back just yet, so he set the plate on the floor for him. Then he served himself some and sat on the floor too, leaning against the cabinets. "Eat up," he said, digging in already.

Deniz tilted his head to the side, looking up at Fino. Seeing the plate being put on the floor for him his tail began to wail slowly, stopping when he sniffed at the food. The Satellite didn’t need to be told twice in order to eat. Lowering his head and starting to eat, he had to remind himself to chew his food instead of swallowing it all. It wasn’t long before he was licking at the plate and then eating and licking food that had fallen off of his plate and onto the floor. Sitting down, he was licking his muzzle and looking at the werehawk when he changed back into human form. Rubbing his eyes, he leaned over and picked up his plate, going to put it into the sink. He leaned against the counter, looking down into the sink. “Thank you for breakfast, master,” he spoke quietly. It seemed odd that the sleepy, happy wolf had been Deniz and not some other Were. The Satellite looked far from happy, though he still could have used more sleep. However, it was simple to please him in wolf form, being that he was hungry. It was a much different story while in human form.

Fino watched him eat, taking his own sweet time to enjoy his breakfast. Deniz did seem so different as he consumed his breakfast with gleaming wolf teeth and shining eyes. Like this single moment in time was pure joy. When Deniz transformed, he was almost sorry to see the wolf go. "Mmhmm," he replied to the Satellite's thanks, his mouth full at the moment. He swallowed and realized that too was his last bite. "You look like hell. What were you up to last night?" he asked, standing to his feet and clearing the dishes into the dishwasher.

Turning around, Deniz frowned as he glanced down at himself. His clothes were a little dirty, but he supposed Fino was also referring to his overall appearance, and he knew he still looked tired. “I couldn’t sleep, master. I thought going outside for some fresh air would have helped.” The Satellite wasn’t sure whether or not going out had actually helped him or not. He had acted on impulse really. The music had been making him uncomfortable, and he was beyond overtired. He’d admit that he wasn’t at his most logical at that point. Deniz was certain that if he had taken a breath and calmed down he could have fallen asleep. Standing off to the side, he watched the werehawk set up the dishwasher with their dirty dishes. “Is there anything you’d like for me to do for you today, master?” Honestly, he was still tired and what he just ate would most likely only be able to keep him full for the next hour or so. He’d be damned if he wasn’t going to start doing something useful. Perhaps he’d have to take the matter in his own hands and find something he could do instead of asking Fino all the time. If he continued to shift at least he could strive for maturity. That would please the werehawk, wouldn’t it?

Yes, I'd like for you to eat and sleep and get your body reset to its proper functionality, the werehawk thought. But Deniz probably wouldn't like hearing that. He would have to adjust slowly to the idea of taking care of himself. Fino thought for a minute, then nodded. "Go out and practice your shifting. Sooner you are matured, the better off you'll be. Come back in three hours. I'll put you to work then."

“Yes, master.” Deniz nodded, and pushed himself away from the counter. Glancing down at himself he shrugged a shoulder and headed outside. There wouldn’t have been any point in cleaning himself up since he was going to stay outside. Heading out towards the back of the house he ventured into the woods. He wasn’t exhausted enough to shift into his cross form, and he wasn’t hungry enough for the wolf form just yet either. Frowning, he began picking up branches and twigs. If he had an axe he would have taken to chopping down trees or at least fallen logs. That would have tired him out much sooner and would have worked up an appetite at the same time. After gathering enough to make a rather good sized pile, the Satellite was close to nodding off and sleeping where he stood. Instead he did what his master had told him the first time he had shifted into his cross form after he had left North Town with him. He focused on the change, and felt how his body reshaped itself. From a human his body shifted to a smaller compact frame. From his cross form he shifted into that of his wolf. Both forms were similar which made the change easier. Finding some berries to eat, his hunger was slightly satisfied, but it was enough to get him to change back into human form. Deniz focused on that too, the way his shifted and grew from when he was a wolf to when he became human. Continuing to practice, the Satellite kept track of the time. At first the progress was slow, and he was getting anxious that he wouldn’t have accomplished much of anything by the time he had to return to his master. Shortly before leaving the woods though, Deniz decided to try one more time, and he did it. He shifted into his wolf form and back to his human self. Returning to the house, he was tired, but he was happy and proud of his accomplishment. Entering the house, he took to the stairs two at a time before going into the bathroom. He was covered with mud, grass, leaves and who knew what else. Washing up and drying off, he cleaned up what mess he made in the bathroom before getting clean clothes on. Then he went and cleaned off the muddy tracks in the hallway and on the stairs.

Fino had gone back to working on the house after breakfast. The kitchen was finished, so he was putting things where they belonged and cleaning up the mess and whatnot. Then he had moved to the living room to work on the floor. He set the hardwood panels side by side, sealing them down and covering them in a laminate coating. It was a rather tedious process, but he hardly minded that much. The end result would be well worth the work. He had gotten about halfway by the time he heard Deniz return in. Has it been that long already? He watched Deniz head upstairs, then went back to his task.

Once Deniz was done cleaning up the mess he had created from his shifting practice outside, he paused, listening to hear where his master was. From the smell of the paint Fino had continued the painting, but now he heard him doing something else in the living room. The Satellite hesitated for a second or two, before a small smile formed and he shifted into wolf form. His tail began to wag slowly as he went down the hall, looking up at his surroundings and seeing how different it was from this view point. Anxiety fluttered in his chest, knowing that some of the instructors wouldn’t have approved of this sort of thing unless he was training. This could have been seen as fun and would have been looked down upon, but Deniz couldn’t help it. This was exciting and new, and he would have been enjoying the experience more if the anxiety wasn’t weighing him down as well. Onwards the black and white wolf went, now venturing into the kitchen. He decided to sort through the scents, so he could better get used to being able to be in this form even when he wasn’t hungry. There was his master’s scent, but he couldn’t compare it to anything else he had smelled before, though it was mingled with what Fino had showered with. There was the smell of their breakfast, even lingering scents of their dinner, and it was enough to make him start drooling. After complying a list, the wolf ventured off into the next room, his nose to the ground. Wrinkling his nose, Deniz could name the scent of what was the laminated coating. So lost he had been in the scents of this room, he walked right into his master. Averting his gaze, his ears flattened, and he stood back. He had smelt his master in here, but he had dismissed it. This was Fino’s house after all, the werehawk’s scent would be everywhere.

Fino continued laying boards and getting them measured out for the nailing. He drew fine lines with chalk and laid the boards against each other so there was as minuscule a space between them as possible. Then I’ll have to grab the nail gun, he thought, rubbing the back of his head as he tried to remember where he last left it. He heard the sound of footsteps coming downstairs and figured Deniz was done with whatever it was he had been doing to get all cleaned up. Then Fino got up and went to the boxes against the wall and started digging. Nope… eh, no… nope… ah-hah! There you are. He pulled out the rather intimidating nail gun from the box and started getting it set up for later. Then he returned to measuring out the boards and getting at all assembled to make up the floor. He was about set up with this side and ready to use the nail gun. Then he felt something bump into him, and he looked back to see the wolf. He just stared for a moment, then reached over and rubbed Deniz between his ears. “Good work. I'm very proud of you, Deniz.”

The Satellite’s posture had stayed the same – ears pinned, gaze averted – not sure if he was going to be ignored or possibly punished. Punishment would have been given by the instructors since he wasn’t paying attention to where he was going. He was a bought guard, supposed to protect someone and here he was having fun. Shame bubbled up in the pit of his stomach. When his master’s hand made contact with the top of his head, the wolf flinched and grew tense, but he remained where he was. It only made things worse and the punishment more severe if he had dared to move away. It took Deniz a long moment to realize what Fino’s actions and words were. The wolf met the werehawk’s gaze uncertainly. Such physical contact and high praise were a first for him and they made him uncomfortable. It had been expected of him to do this, hadn’t it? Master may not have ordered it, but Fino had wanted him to start maturing his forms. Wouldn’t Fino have been crossed with him if he hadn’t managed to accomplish something? He pushed his head against his master’s hand momentarily before he pulled away. Stepping back even further, he shifted into human form. Deniz rubbed the back of his neck, going back to averting his gaze once more before he held his hands behind his back. “Thank you, master. I am glad I have made you very proud.” The words sounded robotic, but the Satellite was happy that he had managed to do something that brought out a different reaction than Fino’s usual indifference. Was he supposed to say thank you? It seemed like the right thing to say. “Would you like me to help you with this?” He asked, his gaze having settled on the floor. “Or is there something else you would rather I do instead?”

The tension had not escaped Fino’s notice. There was always something very hesitant and frightened in the were’s eyes, as if he expected every moment of every day to be filled with torture and spite. Fino had been very young when his first Satellite was chosen for him, so he could not really recall how long it had taken for the Satellite to loosen up, or just how they had gotten around to getting him to a better state. In his youth, he had been crueler to his servants, Fino knew that much. But it seemed his loss and constant state of loneliness had come to curb and ultimately destroy that nastier side of himself. His hand reminded in midair for a moment after Deniz withdrew to shift back, but he could still feel that soft fur under his palm. He lowered his hand and regarded his words, looking at the project before him, then back at the Satellite. “Depends,” he said. “How well can you put a hardwood floor together?”

Deniz bit the inside of his cheek, seeing his master’s hand still remained reached out after he had shifted back. Had the werehawk wanted him to remain in wolf form? It felt like he was constantly guessing at what his master did and didn’t want. It would have been a lot easier if he simply asked, but it still felt wrong to ask questions. He frowned slightly at Fino’s question, glancing down at the floor and thinking back to a similar project he had done in North Town. He hadn’t been the best at such a task, but he hadn’t been a lost cause either. “Not as well as you, master,” he finally replied. “Perhaps I could cook something for lunch?” It was close to noon and would be past that time by the time anything he cooked was ready for consumption. “Unless there isn’t much of anything to cook and I’m required to go shopping?” He adding, remembering that there hadn’t been much in the fridge when they had arrived.

The last time Fino had ever made a hardwood floor was, well, never. To say he was an expert was a gross overestimate of his abilities, what few he had when it came to such carpentry skills. Grimacing, he looked back at the floor, then up at Deniz. “There should be enough food in the fridge for a decent enough lunch. You may go ahead and make whatever you choose. I’m not picky about these sorts of things.” Which was true. He had eaten far worse than he was sure Deniz could ever create. He had faith in the were’s abilities there. All Satellites were taught how to cook, if at least well enough that their charges would never starve. Besides, they had plenty for dinner, seeing as neither of them had eaten much of anything last night. There were still dishes full of leftovers and all. Fino turned back to the flooring. “Let me know when you’ve finished then,” he said, before reaching over and snatching up the nail gun manual. He flipped open some pages and began scrutinizing the words therein, trying to better understand this interesting device he was about to use. A part of him wondered how it would be if he merely threw Deniz at this task. The Satellite would surely outdo himself when it came to effort, if not destroy himself in the process. No, he would not force such a thing on the poor boy. He was struggling enough just taking a step without begging his master’s approval. These more substantial projects would have to wait till they both stopped dancing on eggshells. All in due time, Fino thought tiredly. Perhaps I ought to have bought a more rebellious one, something with more gumption. He will be no good in war if he does not start thinking for himself.

Deniz hesitated, opening and closing his mouth. He was going to ask more questions. Even those that weren’t picky eaters always had something they preferred and didn’t prefer to eat. He bit back on his questions, and bit down on his tongue as he dip into a slight bow. “Yes, master,” he finally replied, turning around and heading back into the kitchen. What to cook, what to cook, what to cook. The Satellite stood in the middle of the kitchen, breathing in and out slowly with his eyes closed. Well, the first step was to go and see what there was for him to work with. He opened the freezer and fridge, scanning through what he saw. Closing the freezer, he crouched down and started to take out some things. A carton of eggs, a block of cheese, packaged ham, and a tomato. Frowning at his ingredients after he placed them on the table, he looked around the kitchen for more things he could add. He found an onion in a cupboard under the sink and added it to his collection on the counter. Venturing outside, he shifted into wolf form and ran into the forest. Where was it….Following his nose, the black and white wolf came to halt. Sniffing at a plant, his tail wagged back and forth. Turning back into human form, he pulled off a good amount of leaves before he ran back to the house and got started on making their lunch. Taking out a cutting board and knife, he cut the tomato, onion, cheese, ham and mint leaves into small pieces. Finding a bowl and fork, he cracked open three eggs and scrambled them. Pulling out a pan from a cupboard under the sink, he set it on the oven and switched on the burner. Taking good sized portions of all the ingredients he cut up, he added them to the bowl. Mixing it all together, he poured it all into the pan. Deniz begun cleaning up his mess as the first omelet cooked, using the spatula to flip it onto its other side. The Satellite had been so busy preparing and cooking this lunch that he hadn’t thought about whether or not his master liked omelets. At least, he hadn’t started to worry until the omelet was done. Putting the finished omelet onto a plate and pouring his omelet mix into the frying pan, he returned to the living room with his hands held behind his back. “Yours is done, master. Would you like me to put the kettle on for a cup of coffee or tea?”
