He didn’t think the kid was going to hand over the rabbit. He was half expecting the large red dragon to replace the bloody boy and….snarl? Growl? Maybe eat him? But his eyes widened as he was given the rabbit, and he watched the were-boy go to sit by the coals and poke them before he went to work. He sat down cross legged next to his pack, hand shaking a little a he pulled the knife out of it’s sheath. He glanced up at the kid, before he looked back down at the rabbit. His palm grew sweaty, his heart begun to race as he held the knife to the dead mammal and started with the first slice. Blood seeped out, the red mingling and staining the fur, while the rabbit’s innards peeked through Moving on to make another slice, he stared down at the rabbit, his pounding heart drummed in his ears. He took his time, wishing to prolong this for as long as he could. Out here and away from the city he could have his fill, drown in his obsession before calmly returning and pretending to be as civilized as the rest of the population. As much as he wanted this to last much longer, he couldn’t draw out the time it took to skin the rabbit. Blinking, he frowned down at the furless lump on his lap, fur in his other hands. His shoulders sagged, and he sighed, head bowed. He was hardly satisfied and it would take a lot more than this one rabbit to do so. Knife still in hand, his eyes snapped open, and his head jerked up. The were-boy! His heart pounded again, and felt like it got stuck in his throat. The kid had been watching him this whole time!... Turning and looking around, his brow furrowed when he didn’t see the kid standing next to him. Where did he go? Seeing him off in the distance and heading for the forest, he shot up, and shrugged on his bag as he ran after the kid. “Hey! Where are you going?” Had the kid been watching while he had started to skin the rabbit? Had he seen and left as fast as his broken body could take him? Even he didn’t know what he looked like while he was trying to curb his obsession, but it wasn’t something he wanted a kid to see.

If Kieran had been watching, he had not really paid all that much attention to detail, or maybe he would have just eaten the boy there and then out of fear and vulnerability. As he walked, he felt himself getting weaker, shakier. I don't understand, he thought, why now? I was fine before. Just fine before. Does it have to do with that ice or... or... he wasn't sure what, and it scared him. I shouldn't have left. Why did I leave? For Adrian! That's right... I left for Adrian, at least that's what I said... He only half heard the rushed footsteps and then the human's question. "Water..." he murmured, feeling hot all over and cold, so deadly cold inside, at the same time. He stumbled a little, got his footing, and continued. He needed to numb the pain. Get this blood off. He was feeling sick.

Rushing in front of the were-boy he frowned, brow furrowed. Stepping aside, he took a hold of the kid’s arm when he came by him, wrapping the boy’s arm up and around his shoulders. “Okay, easy there, kid. I’ll find you some water.” He frowned down at the boy, seeing he was shaking and looking pale. It seemed like the were was getting worse. Should he take him to the city and to the hospital? Yes, there were the trust issues, but living to fight another day was better than dying out here. Looking away he couldn’t see or hear a creek or river, though he knew there was one nearby. “You know, you never did tell me your name….though with the whole trust issues thing, I understand.” He paused, glancing down at the were-boy before taking a look at their surroundings. He frowned, eyes narrowed slightly. Hadn’t he set up a trap somewhere around here? Had some animal taken it? “Just so you can mentally stop calling me human, or food, my name is Myles,” he spoke on, as he continued walking.

Kieran slumped in Myles' grip, not really relying on his own feet anymore to keep him supported. His eye flickered to give him a glare. And after a moment, he looked away. "Kieran," he mumbled lowly. "My name's Kieran." He figured he owed the human that much, if anything at all. He had never asked for this kid's help. Still he gave it over. Something still felt... off, but Kieran merely assumed it was his own degenerating state.

Myles shifted his weight when he felt Kieran rely on him completely. He glanced down at the were-boy again when he had given him his name. “Thanks….now I can stop calling you were-boy, large dragon, my death dealer, etc.” He smiled slightly, dragging Kieran along. Over a hill and around of clusters of pines, Myles braced himself as he slowly went down the other side. He smiled seeing the river in the distance, though the sense of unease he had from earlier had only continued to grow. Upon reaching the river, Myles slowly set Kieran down. Rummaging through his bag, he pulled out his canteen and handed it over to Kieran. “Here, you should have this if you need water right away….unless Weres are able to drink any water source they come across. Humans on the other hand, can’t get away with that.”

He reached out to the canteen, but his conscience stopped him, and he was left reaching just inches from taking the canteen with a shaking hand. Myles was right: he did not have the ability to drink any water. Kieran did. He had lived off stream water and the like his whole life. He dropped his arm back to his side, wincing as a stab of pain went through his arm. "Water," he muttered, feeling too tired to get up. He directed his gaze to the river behind Myles.

Myles frowned, seeing Kieran shakily reach for the canteen and then not take it. He tilted his head, watching as the teen winced. Glancing behind him at the river, he looked back at Kieran. Returning the canteen to his bag, he went towards Kieran, lifting up the were-boy once again. Taking him over to the river he set Kieran down again by the river’s edge. Frowning, brows furrowed, he waited a few moments before he let Kieran go. It seemed like he would collapse into the water if he let him go, but at least he’d there to get him before he drowned. Stepping away, Myles bent to pull out his knife. Twirling it about in his hands, he continued to frown and take in their surroundings. “This might seem like a stupid question to you, but is there anyone in this area that you trust? Anyone you could stay with until you get better?” It wasn’t a common thing for him to feel like he was being watched. Whenever his skin crawled and his hair stood on end he didn’t question such a feeling, and he was packing and moving on that same day.

He grunted as he was pulled back up, only to be dragged somewhere else and plopped down unceremoniously. He saw the water next to him, and he just stared at it with an unblinking gaze. Trust, he thought to himself, I don't know who to trust anymore. Certainly not my own army. Sworn to kill me now. Not my people... I thought they would not betray me, unless they had good reason. Are they really so complacent that they would condemn me based on heresay? He frowned. Of course they would. What am I after all? Just a random child. A leftover afterthought of the great Draeyva. But even my brother was not immune to their blind eyes and deaf ears. Or was he..? Was I right to rip him away? He could have been saved. Could be on the throne now. Razka only has so much sway... He frowned. No. I can't think like that. Idle speculation leads to nothing. I cannot regret what I have done. Then mustering his strength, he pushed himself up and over, rolling right into the water. Lying on his back, he immediately felt some relief as the water soaked through his clothes and flowed all around him. It cooled the heat and thawed the cold. He turned his head and drank some of the water, then rolled back onto his side towards shore, coughing harshly. Curling up on his side, he felt his consciousness drifting off.

Myles frowned watching Kieran, sighing when he didn’t get an answer. “I’ll take that as a no in any case,” he muttered. He followed after Kieran when he rolled himself into the water, stepping away when he rolled himself back out. When Kieran curled up, he crouched down beside him, moving his arms beneath him carefully and picked him up slowly. Returning to where he had left his bag, he set the were-boy down again. Pulling out the sleeping bag he opened it up, set it down on Kieran and tucked it around him. He straightened when he was done, shaking his head after a moment and going to sit down by his bag. “You just had to go and get yourself attached to some kid, didn’t you? As if there isn’t enough shit going on.” Snorting, he rolled his eyes, staring at Kieran a bit longer before he stood up suddenly and walked away. It wasn’t the best idea to have a fire if there was a risk of being detected. However, there wasn’t anything Myles could do to lose whoever it was that was watching. He couldn’t leave Kieran in this state to fend for himself, and he wouldn’t be able to out run or hide from those following them with the were-boy in tow either. Returning to where he had left Kieran, he set down his kindling, and knelt beside it. Making a fire he remembered the rabbit the weredragon had caught for him earlier and he cut it up into smaller pieces so he could cook it.

Kieran was fast asleep the entire time, giving in to the embrace of slumber, even if he was soaking wet. He seemed unaware of what was happening to him on the outside. His entire focus, as far as his body and mind were concerned, was in repairing the damage and just getting his heart to continue its steady beating. He shuddered with every breath, an internal struggle inside him to fully restart his inner fire. The ice had wrecked its havoc and done its damage, but still it was not letting up. His gasping fingers found the sleeping bag, and he pulled it tight around him, his knuckles turning white at the strain. He groaned softly in his sleep.

Myles stared into the fire, caught in the dancing of the flames and the smell of the rabbit cooking. Did this were-boy, this Kieran, have to look so much like the one he lost? Was this some sort of sign? Was it just a coincidence, or was this some high being’s hand in making their paths cross so he’d be tormented further? Blinking, he poked at the meat with his knife, glancing to look at Kieran. He knew better than to guess that the teen was having a peaceful sleep. The shuddering and groaning alone was enough to tell him something was wrong, but he didn’t know how he was going to figure out exactly what that was. He was no doctor, not even a medic. Glancing down at the fire again he stood, grabbing some of the rocks that had been a part of the fire pit. He set the heated stones around the wrapped up were-boy form. At least they might help warm him. Retreating he went in search of other stones to put in the pit. He used his shirt as a pouch, filling it up with more rocks. He was returning to their little camp, ducking under some low hanging branches when he felt something tighten around his ankle and he was swept up into the air. The rocks and kindling he had been holding fell out of his arms and his shirt, hitting his head in the process. He spun, his vision getting blurry while he heard his heart thumping in his ears. Gritting his teeth, he tried to swing up, managing to reach the rope tied around his ankle. His fingers fumbled with the knot, and he fell back down before he could free himself.

Kieran rolled over and flinched, feeling something hard at his shoulder. It broke him from his slumber somewhat. Still half-asleep, he groped in the haze till his hand closed around the rock. He held it in his hand for a while, feeling it burn its way down his arm. He finally dropped it and tucked his hand back under the sleeping bag. The scent of cooking rabbit wafted to his nostrils, but he was still full from the wolf he had eaten. Grumbling, he slipped into another troubled sleep, deeper than the first, with a plethora of frenzied, half-baked nightmares of sufferings and unrealized tortures. On the outside, he slept on with an unbroken rhythm of soft sighs and quiet breaths. He did not show signs of distress despite what his mind put him through in the shrouds of dreams. He was even less aware of his companion's plight, not that he could have done anything anyway. He was rather useless.

Myles continued to struggle, falling back down to hang and spin once again. This was a trap. The young man knew that now. What he didn’t know was who it was that set it and where they were now. A rustling from behind him made Myles stop his current attempt. Eyes narrowed, he tried to get his unsteady vision to focus. He couldn’t see anyone…but that sounded like it was coming from the camp. Kieran! Myles’s jaw clenched and with renewed vigor he scrambled at the rope, willing his nails to slice through the rope like his knife would have been able to. He fell back down, gasping for breath, body aching and feeling numb. The kid's fast asleep and defenseless! Trying to lunge up to reach the rope again, he failed miserably. The spinning was making him more nauseous than he realized. He shivered, pins and needles accompanying the numbness in his limbs. Myles closed his eyes tightly, not wanting to watch the world spin and sway in front of him any longer. There was a wooden creaking above him, but he didn’t open his eyes to take a look. Then there was a crack and he fell to the ground. Gasping, he got up slowly, leaning into a tree. The were-boy. Myles stumbled forwards, slowly when he heard voices ahead. The numbness increased as the men came into view. It dug deeper, going into his bones and seeping into his organs. Five men stood around Kieran, rifles in hand and wearing camouflage. They sounded vaguely familiar…. “This isn’t the one we’re looking for, boss?” “No, he must be the one that’s caught in the trap. Go check it out, and kill this one.” Myles had slid to the ground, not able to stand while feeling such pain. His gaze focused on the men again, willing to remain focused enough to make sure they didn’t do anything to Kieran, even if he couldn’t hear what they said through the pounding of his heart. A pair of the men left, while one was going through his bag, another stood next to him. Then one man remained next to Kieran, rifle in hand and aimed at the were-boy’s head. An inhuman sound ripped through his throat and rumbled in his chest, creating ripples of pain, but he couldn’t stop it. Myles was on his feet before the thought had even crossed his mind. He leaped over Kieran, pulling the man away from him. There was gun fire, the man was pinned beneath him and then his teeth were on flesh and blood filled his mouth. Everything went into overdrive and the pain was drowned out. He spun, hearing someone approach from behind, only to see the man being knocked down by something long and white. Myles stood over Kieran, the inhuman sound rumbling through him again as he eyed the men below him. The men were below him? He snorted, tilting his head, looking behind him when he felt movement. Long, white…tail? He watched the scaly tuffed tail for a moment, before he eyed it’s length, seeing hind legs, and wings…base of a neck… Myles jumped, seeing the large white scaly form do the same thing. Screeching, he looked down at the men below him again, growing tense and hissing when he saw their rifles pointed towards him.

Kieran just watched in a half-dazed state, eye open in a low slit, and though his eye followed the different men, he seemed entirely indifferent to their actions, even when the metal of a gun went to his head. It’s better this way anyway, he thought, I should have died already as it is. But then Adrian flashed before his eyes. Why are you here? he asked. Can’t you let me die already? No. Ironic. You pull away and I chase after you. Then I pull away, and you won’t let go. We’re like tides, you and me, always tugged around by each other. No. Or maybe I just delude myself. In my darkest moments, I make myself believe you still need me. I can’t even admit that I want to live without hiding it behind some sort of excuse. No. I won’t die here, Adrian, don’t you fret. I’ll follow you to the ends of the earth, and when you stop… I’ll stop too. Thunder shook the ground. Kieran reached up with a broken arm to push the gun away from his head. Gunfire. Jolting pain exploded through his arm. His body tore itself apart as he forced himself into a shift, but it failed halfway through. His skin was stretched, half-dragon parts splitting through some of the skin, muscle and tendon and bones showing. His jaw was elongated and full of teeth that pierced into his face. His eye was a dragon’s, his other an empty socket that glowed with some inner fire beneath the metal plated skin. He lashed at one of the men with his tail, wrapped it around, and squeezed, crushing the man’s leg to pieces. And that was all he had the strength for. A dragon… really...? he thought, looking up. This day gets stranger and stranger.

Myles glanced down at the were-boy beneath him, not really fazed when he saw that Kieran looked half-dragon. He snorted, tilting his head, before he looked back up at the men. Seeing the guns were still pointed at him and Kieran, his lips pulled back baring his teeth. The lashing of the tail was distracting, and he was tempted to snap at it but he refrained when the men stepped closer. Too close. He snarled, jumping away and scooping up Kieran in his hand…paw…fore-paw? This is so confusing. What the hell is wrong with me? Jumping back, Myles spun and he felt the tail hit few of the men as he did. He crashed across the river and tried to run, although it was awkward on three legs. He wasn’t going to be able to outrun those men, not for very long at least anyways. The air ruffled the feathers on his wings, and Myles felt them beginning to open slowly. He screeched, glancing down at Kieran. Was flying the answer? The only way they were going to be able to get away? Something whizzed by his wing, grazing a few of the feathers. Myles didn’t need to venture a guess as to whether or not more bullets were to follow. I don’t know how to fucking fly! Pain exploded and zipped onto his side, and Myles roared, nostrils filled with the scent of his blood. Pushing himself to go faster, he let the wings open and extend. Before he had the time to talk himself out of it, to think of just how much of a bad idea it was, he pushed himself up into the air and flapped as hard as he could. Myles looked down, eyes widening when he was he was airborne and steadily climbing up higher. His sides were already getting sore and his muscles ached. Where can we go that they won’t find us? Myles’s gaze darted, trying to search for some area they could go to and be safe from the men.
